With one of the best power/size ratios, VACON® NXP Liquid Cooled drives are ideal for applications where space is at a premium or air cooling is difficult. Heavy industries with harsh operating conditions, such as in marine, offshore and mining environments benefit from the drive’s compact design and robust reliability.
The VACON® NXP range of common Liquid Cooled DC bus drive products includes front-end units, inverters and brake-chopper units. They ensure all energy within a system is effectively utilized and redistributed.
Common DC bus components can be used in many different combinations. In a regenerative DC bus system, the front-end unit generates power back to the mains network. This is suitable for processes where braking is needed often and the braking power is relatively high. In a non-regenerative system, braking power is redistributed to other drives in the system and possible excess power can be dissipated as heat using an optional brake chopper and brake resistors. This is ideal for small production lines where braking is needed less often.
As a high degree of protection (IP54 or higher) can easily be achieved with these drives, they can be installed almost anywhere in a plant or on a vessel. This eliminates the load on air-conditioning systems in electrical rooms reducing costs and installation time, and makes them ideal for retrofitting.

VACON® 20 Cold Plate is an open-frame, cold-plate drive. It is designed to use any type of cooling available inside a customers’ installation and to operate reliably in demanding environments.
Heat loss in AC drives can often affect surrounding machinery, particularly in compact drives that are mounted in tight spaces with insufficient airflow. With VACON 20 Cold Plate’s unique cooling system, heat loss can be reduced in two ways. Attach the drive to a heat sink with large cooling ribs to create a fully passively cooled drive, or mount the drive on a plate which is cooled by liquid to create a liquid-cooled solution. With no heat fins, VACON 20 Cold Plate requires less mounting depth. It fits in the tightest of places saving space and costs related to panel size.
Cabinets can be sealed making VACON 20 Cold Plate ideal for very harsh and demanding environments with high temperatures, dust or moist conditions. It supports asynchronous induction as well as permanent magnet synchronous motors. And the built-in PLC functionality allows the creation of application-specific software and solutions.

VACON® 100 FLOW is an AC drive that is dedicated to improving flow control and saving energy in industrial pump and fan applications.
Specifically designed features include Multipump solutions and application selection menus. They enhance pump performance and protect pipes and equipment to ensure reliable operation. Standard PID control uses a sensor to control pump speed instead of an external controller. This helps the drive to quickly react to fluctuations in demand for accurate process control and optimized energy savings.

The VACON® NXP Grid Converter plays a key role in supporting clean power conversion in distributed networks with or without energy storage.
By enabling connection of energy storage to AC grids, and facilitating AC grids onboard vessels or island applications in remote areas, it fulfils a unique function. Without the grid converter none of these would be possible.
The grid converter facilitates load sharing and is highly versatile, for easy integration into diverse networks. Its importance cannot be overstated; use of a grid converter is a must in reaching emission targets.
Smart grid converter
VACON NXP Grid Converter for smart grids improves stability in the grid by supporting a diverse range of energy generators and energy storage systems. By enabling peak shaving, it in turn reduces the capital investment required for grid infrastructure. It is certified for grid code compliance in a wide range of countries, for fast system certification for system integrators.
Shore supply power conversion
When used with a shore-supply solution, VACON NXP Grid Converter allows electrical power to be sourced from the local grid, rather than the ship’s main engine or generators. This process, sometimes known as ‘cold ironing’, has a significantly positive impact on fuel economy. It causes reductions in CO2, NOx and SOx emissions, as well as noise and vibration levels.
VACON NXP Grid Converter can also be applied to shaft-generator solutions, ensuring that propulsion machinery is able to operate at various speeds. The shaft generator decouples the shaft from the mains, which allows better electrical quality and improved fuel economy. Additionally, power can either be taken from or entered into the propeller shaft. This is particularly useful for ships that often alternate their speeds as it creates fuel savings and minimizes exhaust emissions by up to 15%. It also creates an emergency mode meaning that the vessel can operate even if the main engine fails.
Danfoss supports system integrators (SI) in designing their systems to bid on projects. Our aim is to help customers by providing tools and reference designs to make their system design easier. For instance, Danfoss can provide configurable 3D models as well as 2D general arrangement drawings from our product offering.
The 1000 Efficient Solutions comprise the very best the world has to offer in clean and profitable solutions to protect the environment. VACON® NXP Grid Converter was assessed on the criteria of viability, deployability, and sustainability.

To help improve performance by making better use of energy, energy storage is increasingly being introduced into systems to create hybrid solutions. Various storage methods are being used but, due to reductions in battery costs and increases in energy density, battery utilization is seen as being the fastest growing and more easily integrated storage medium available today. DC/DC converters can be used to connect to sources such as batteries, super capacitors, fuel cells and solar panels.
Due to the wide input range of the source voltages, for example battery, the VACON® NXP DC/DC Converter application can be used to match source voltage to a common DC bus system in order to utilize the stored energy to create the right DC bus voltage required to operate the machinery running on these hybrid systems.
The VACON® NXP DC/DC Converter application can be installed in both liquid- and air-cooled VACON® NXP drive modules.

The VACON® NXP range of common DC bus drive products includes a number of active front-ends, inverters and brake chopper units. They ensure all energy within a system is effectively utilized and redistributed.
Common DC bus components can be used in many different combinations. In a regenerative DC bus system, the active front-end unit generates power back to the mains network.
